Metro coverage is still expanding, check the map before you assume it reaches your hotel, so most trips end with a short hop on an auto-rickshaw; insist on the meter or book via the Ola/Uber apps to avoid the "tourist rate." For airport runs, the KIA Express buses (KIAS-9, KIAS-10, etc.) leave from a clearly marked bay outside arrivals and cost a fraction of a taxi. They run throughout the day but can bog down in peak traffic. If you land late or are luggage-heavy, the official airport taxi counter inside the terminal is the safest bet, ignore the touts outside.
